Caring for your leather

Leather can last a lifetime when it is well cared for. It is so important to take care of your leathergoods to ensure they stay strong and moisturised while in use.

I use only the best British bridle leather produced and hand finished by Sedgwick and Co. in their tannery in Walsall. Sedgwick leather is strong, supple and looks brilliant - however, it should be treated regularly to keep it in tip top condition!

There are lots of Leather Care products on the market, I recommend Sedgwick's Leather Care as it is made by the manufacturers of the leather, it will nourish your leather, and maintain it. It is particularly important if your dog enjoys swimming as it will counteract the drying effects of the water. If you protect your leather from new and throughout it's lifetime it will ensure it lasts as long as you need it to.

When you first receive your leather, as a rough guide you should treat it with the Leather Care daily for a week, then once a month or so. If your leather gets muddy or greasy, clean it with warm water and some clean old cloth and allow it to dry naturally (NOT over heat). Then apply some Sedgwick's Leather Care, allow it to dry and gently buff it with a clean soft shoe brush or cloth. Similarly if your leather gets wet, allow it to dry naturally and apply the Leather Care in the same way.

If you do not care for your leatherwork it can reduce its lifespan and could cause it to stretch or break so please love your leather. Loved leather lasts longer!
